Online talk with Prof. Dr. David Biggs and Tobias Eisele. During Donald Trump’s presidency, California has become a symbol for green leadership. California's leaders and citizens at large have rejected Washington’s climate policy and remain committed to reducing carbon emissions to net zero as one of the world's largest economies. The "Under2MoU" agreement is as a perfect example for this commitment: it promises more intense collaboration among a multitude of states and nations in order to fight climate change globally. It originated from a bilateral partnership between the states of California and Baden-Württemberg. Its goal is a reduction in emissions of 80 to 95 percent below 1990 levels by 2050 and/or achieving a per capita annual emission goal of less than 2 metric tons by 2050.
David Biggs and Tobias Eisele will analyze the origins of California as a “green state”, its collaboration with Baden-Württemberg, as well as both states’current and future developments in fighting the climate crisis.
Prof. Dr. David Biggs is an environmental historian and a Professor of History at the University of California at Riverside.
Tobias M. Eisele is a Senior Counsellor in the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy of Baden-Württemberg.
This event is part of the series “Eureka! Ländle Meets California“, organized by the German-American Center Stuttgart DAZ and supported by the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg.
