Music and Talk with Joanne Shenandoah (Grammy Award Winner) und Douglas George Kanentiio, Iroquois Confederacy. Enjoy a glimpse into the history of the Iroquois peoples through an evening of lecture and song. Historian Kanentiio will share the divine story of the Peacemaker and its significance in the formation of the Iroquois Confederacy, a political and cultural union of six distinct nations, which remains a unique example of democratic society based on principles of peace and human rights for all. Shenandoah, a Grammy Award winning musician who has captivated crowds at both Carnegie Hall and the White House, will complement the evening’s storytelling through song. She has enchanted audiences since her beginning in 1990 and has certainly fulfilled the promise of her Native name, Tekaliwah-kwa (She Sings).
