How does a provincial American town function? The documentary movie 45365 captures small town US-life in striking cinema verite%u0301 style that peels away the layers of Sidney, Ohio %u2013 population 20,000 %u2013 to reveal a deeper shared experience. Clippings of daily life are arranged in a fascinating and seemingly normal collage. But Middle America turns out to be much more complicated than a Norman Rockwell painting would have us believe. Filmmakers Turner and Bill Ross deliver slices of life in gorgeous photography and sequences building the unique faces, places, and events into a powerful mosaic of humanity. The camera offers a curious and neutral view on police men, playgrounds, a justice court, a football team, parades and a church service. The movie is not only about people and families but about human interaction and relationships, for example between a father and his son, between a young couple in love, between the police man and the delinquent. In 45365 all these moments are interwoven to a portrait of an exemplary village, which is possibly the antroposphere of the future.
