February is Black History Month

Vortrag von Prof. Matthew Henry, Richland College, Dallas, Texas.

The 1990s saw quite a number of African American authors successfully publishing novels and short stories, among them Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan and many more. Who are the African American writers in the 21st century? And what are their topics? Has African American literature become part of mainstream? African American culture is both distinct and enormously influential to American culture as a whole. For many years it developed separately from the mainstream, both because of slavery and the persistence of racial
discrimination in America. Matthew Henry, Professor of English and Cultural Studies, will explore todays African American literature which has been accepted as an integral part of American literature.

In Kooperation mit der Abteilung fu%u0308r Amerikanistik der Universita%u0308t Tu%u0308bingen und der US-Botschaft.
