Three stories from the collection for the Abitur Schwerpunktthema “One Language, Many Voices” (George Orwell’s ‘Shooting an Elephant,’ Somerset Maugham’s ‘A Force of Circumstance’, and Hanif Kureishi’s ‘My Son the Fanatic’) will be closely scrutinized for their overt and hidden meanings. Ellen Butzko and Katja Krey will discuss the issues raised by the stories from different perspectives following the standard debate format.
