Beschreibung
In October of 1985, Romell Broom was sentenced to death for the kidnap, rape and murder of a 14-year old girl from Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Broom was scheduled to die by lethal injection on September 15th, 2009. For more than 2 hours, the medical team tried to establish intravenous access, sticking needles into Mr Broom a total of
18 times. The execution failed. The State of Ohio is litigating in the courts for its right to attempt to execute Romell Broom a second time. Mr. Brooms lawyers argue that this would constitute cruel and unusual punishment as defined by the eighth amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The Second Execution of Romell Broom brings into serious question the legitimacy of the original death sentence, casting a shadow of increasing moral ambiguity over the prospect of a second execution.
