Do politicians really represent the interests of the German people, or are they mainly concerned with securing their own financial advantages? Mathew D. Rose follows the money in German politics, takes a close look behind the scenes, and JUNI 2013© U.S. Embassy New Delhi16VERANSTALTUNGENobserves local and top-ranking politicians alike. Rose delivers a sophisticated analysis of the circumstances and reveals several examples of how politics in Germany has turned into a highly profit-oriented economic branch. He does not shy away from painful topics such as the sponsoring of political parties, lobbyism, bribery, and consulting jobs for politicians. Money, not the will of the people, has become the true determinant in political processes making a shambles of democracy and justice.Mathew D. Rose, born in New York in 1954, studied history and has been working as an investigative journalist in Berlin for many years. Since the 1990s, he has worked on uncovering corruption and nepotism in Germany and wrote "Berlin – Hauptstadt von Filz und Korruption in 1997" and more recently "Korrupt? Wie unsere Politiker und Parteien sich bereichern – und uns verkaufen". His work has been published in Der Spiegel, Stern, Die Zeit, Handelsblatt, and various daily newspapers. His films have appeared in the ARD, Monitor and Kontraste.
